The animation shows the temperature increasing after the unit is started and then cooling down.

When starting the trap and holding the gas button you should not only wait for the dot to turn red but also wait for the large fan to start to spin. This is not a power indicator or a indication that the unit is working this only tells you that the unit is producing heat.
