The following are possible troubleshooting steps to keep your Mosquito Magnet® running.
Having the tank purged from time to time is essential to the operation of the Mosquito Magnet®. Over time a tank can build up some air. Having excessive air in a propane tank can cause the unit to shut off while running. Purging of the propane tank can only be done by a authorized tank filling station. During shipping, movement of the unit, or times when it is not operating, the catalytic beads inside the burner box can become settled or become unleveled. If this is the case the Mosquito Magnet® will not stay running or will not start at all.
With the gas line disconnected stand on the side of the unit, make sure the upper housing closed and latched. Holding the upper housing with two hands. It is also recommended that you place your foot on the stand for leverage. Now start shaking back and forth quite vigorously 5 or 6 times. Now reconnect the gas line and try to start again. The image below shows how the catalytic beads should be in the burner box. In the incorrect image the beads are not level, if the beads are like this then too much gas may flow in and not allow for a proper ignition.
Sometimes the gas valve may need to be held longer than the recommended two minuets. If this is the case then it is recommended that you hold the gas button until the large fan is spinning. If the trap feels hot and 10-15 minutes have passed and the large fan is not spinning click here for some troubleshooting steps.
If the trap is hot and the fan is not spinning then there may be a problem with the fan. If this is the case then try the following trouble shooting steps.
Try giving the fan a push
If the fan is trying to move and if there is dust and/or moisture in the fan it may be causing it to not spin. Open the housing and look under the Power Pack (NOTE: Please be cautious when looking under the power pack as there isn't a fan guard) and look to see if the large fan is spinning. If it is not spinning try giving it a push and if that does not work then contact technical support for further assistance.
If the Mosquito Magnet® runs for a while and then shuts down and this happens consistently, this may be caused from the unit over heating. The main cause of this is the fan not running fast enough. This can be remedied by the previous step. If this continues to happen then contact technical support for further assistance.
